Hey, I’m Nicolet! I’m an adventure chaser, health nut, and 4th year medical student. I love a lot of things in this world: food, science, people, nature, yoga, and the human body – to name a few. This blog is an expression of all of those things and more. My posts vary from light-hearted life topics and recipes, to science and medical matters. ALL of my recipes are gluten/dairy-free, because these dietary choices are part of the way I manage my Hashimoto’s Disease (a condition in which my immune system attacks my own thyroid).
Before medical school, I received my B.S. in Nutritional Science from The University of Texas at Austin, conducted nutritional birth-defect research at the Dell Pediatric Research Institute, led body acceptance workshops for The National Institutes of Health, and developed several public health initiatives for University Health Services at The University of Texas. I believe in the importance of nutrition and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. I also believe that these factors should be a key focus in health care.
I will be going into the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), and will begin as a resident doctor next year. I would love to share more about the specialty and why I chose this path!
