OMS Day of Wellness

OMS Day of Wellness 2018

In advance of National OMS Day of Wellness on February 16, 2018, I wanted to share a video that some of my dearest friends put together for this year’s OMS Day of Wellness. As part of the Mentality Initiative to Nurture Doctors (MIND) at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM), our goal is to promote the importance of mental health among health professionals. What started as an organization to address depression and suicide rates among health professionals has turned into a national movement. Medical schools across the nation have followed our model using our organization name, t-shirt designs, and event ideas. Established physicians, medical school faculty, and national osteopathic leaders are reacting positively to our vulnerability. Our message is spreading like wildfire and I just can’t hardly believe it. My heart is so full.

In this video, osteopathic medical students (OMS) at TCOM show their vulnerability, sharing the struggles they have faced and how they’ve overcome them. No joke, I’ve probably watched this a million times because LOOK AT THESE BEAUTIFUL HUMANS ♡

This video was directed and produced by the Mentality Initiative to Nurture Doctors (MIND), an organization founded and led by medical students at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNT HSC) in Fort Worth, Texas.

MIND was founded in response to studies showing that medical students are more likely to be affected by depression and suicide than the general public.
